While many of our country’s liberal politicians are trying to pass legislation to prevent further global warming, they are facing harsh criticisms from the conservative media. Many Fox News personalities as well as radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh and several conservative internet blogs have claimed that the recent north east snow storm is proof that global warming is a myth. Global warming is a term that many suggest was made popular by former Vice President Al Gore. In 2006 David Guggenheim directed a film titled “Inconvenient Truth” which was a informative film about Al Gore’s message of man’s responsibility for global warming. Many advocates say that the proper term would be “climate change”.

Global warming suggests that through man made pollution, we are damaging the planet’s ozone layer, increasing the sun’s affect on planet earth. Global warming has many supporters, including thousands of scientists who claim to have proven that the issue is real and should not be ignored. Recent studies have shown that the temperatures of 2009 were among the top warmest temperatures since satellites started keeping records. A similar study also suggested that the previous decade, 2000-2009, was the warmest decade in almost 2000 years. Global warming supporters believe that there are several ways to reduce the threat of climate change. These methods include transitioning our main energy sources from coal and other fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources such as solar power, wind power, hydropower, biomass energy and geothermal energy just to name a few.

There are many politicians in both houses of congress that are making global warming their top priority. However, the conservative media is making their goal very hard to achieve. This week in the north east, there was one of the worst snow storms in recent years. Washington D.C. got a majority of the snow which actually canceled scheduled hearings dealing with global warming. The talking heads of the right claimed that the record breaking snow storms in Washington D.C. disproved all of the science that supports global warming. One republican elected official had a picture taken of him with his family next to a big igloo that they made out of the snow and called it “Al Gore’s new home”. This was an obvious attack on the former vice president’s efforts to warn the public of this important issue. Another republican politician was reported saying something along the lines of it’s going to snow in Washington D.C. until Al Gore cries “uncle”. Rush Limbaugh went on an angry rant saying that the recent snow storm was another nail in the coffin on global warming. Some Americans believe that these conservatives are turning an important global threat into a political issue. Many people will suggest that a snow storm in the north east in February does not disprove global warming. If you or someone you know has ever smoked a cigarette and did not develop cancer, that does not disprove the fact that cigarettes cause cancer. Even though most birds and some insects can fly, that does not disprove the laws of gravity. Many of these conservatives should take a look at the overwhelming amount of evidence that prove global warming is a real thing.

Whether you believe that global warming is real or not, we should all agree that it is a good idea to reduce man made pollution. Making our planet a cleaner and safer place will benefit all of us. The conservatives that are trying to make this into a political issue should think about our future. It is possible that global warming can destroy our planet. If that happens it will be the global warming critics who will hold the blame for blocking progress on preventing the situation in the first place. This issue should not be political. It is a real threat that can affect every living person in this world.

Climate Change Affects Us All

Many recent studies have proven that are planet is enduring massive climate changes. Climate change is a dangerous threat that has been increasing for many years. There are scientists that suggest the climate changes we are seeing are due to pollution caused by man. The climate change in recent years show that our temperatures are rising. This does not mean that all of the planet is facing warmer temperatures. In fact many places on earth are experiencing extreme cold temperatures and that can bring more snowfall than usual. It is unfortunate that there are many elected officials, most seem to be republicans, who do not believe the scientific evidence and choose to ignore record temperatures. The current democratic president is urging both the House of Representatives and the Senate to pass legislation that will help prevent further climate change and transition our current energy sources to cleaner sources. However, this process has been delayed due to the politicians who choose to treat climate change as a political disadvantage to them for reasons unknown to the general public.

The conservatives who do not believe that there are dangerous climate changes, promote their views by choosing to only use the term “global warming”. They might be doing this because when there are snow storms or extreme cold temperatures in certain places, they can make climate change advocates look unintelligent by saying that temperatures are still lower in many cities around the world. The recent climate changes we see in our world suggest that we are experiencing global warming. Scientists have explained that when temperatures rise, the rate of evaporation increases, causing more snow than usual in some parts of the world. There has also been another theory that the glaciers and polar ice caps that are located near Greenland are melting and the ice cold water is flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. It is well known that temperatures are influenced by the surrounding oceans or large bodies of water. If oceans are filled with ice water, the weather will reflect that. This could be why climate changes are producing colder temperatures in some places. However, conservative politicians choose to ignore this part of explanation and focus strictly on the term global warming. Many people cannot understand why these politicians and critics of climate changes are turning this issue into another republican vs democrat political argument.

Advocates of climate change are doing their best to spread their message, but there is a lot more that needs to be done. Climate change does not just affect democrats or republicans or even any other political party; it affects the entire world. Everyone should be a supporter of making this world a cleaner and safer place.

Health Care Reform

While most conservatives are coming up with excuses on why our country does not need health care reform, liberalists are doing everything in their power to finally get reform passed. A liberalist is simply someone who believes in liberty for everyone. A liberalist feels that the government should involve itself in order to help social needs. Right now it is clear to most that our current health care system is broken. Health insurance companies are taking advantage of American citizens by constantly raising their premiums and decreasing their quality of care. These companies seem to be much more interested in their share holders rather than their members. The government has come closer than ever to passing health care reform, but the process is now stalled due to the strong opposition of the republican party. However, it seems that each liberalist who believes in passing reform is not going to let the recent progress die due to false claims.

With health care premiums rising and the quality of care plummeting, liberalists are constantly protesting for reform to the system. Many liberalists believe that there is no use for health insurance companies and that they only serve as a middle man, which seems rather pointless. One health insurance company in California announced that they were going to raise their premiums by almost forty percent. The same company also recently reported record profits and increasing earnings for its top CEO. If the company is profiting more than expected, why does it need to raise costs for its members? The company has not made it clear where the extra money will be spent. This is just one example out of many that have liberalists furious. Each liberalist believes that the government needs to fix this problem immediately.

The republican party has always been against health care reform. Any liberalist would most likely blame the republican party for blocking health care reform in 1994 under President Clinton. There are several possible reasons why the party of no is against reform. Most importantly is the notion of conservatives to keep the government out of people’s lives in every aspect possible. Conservatives generally believe that the government’s role is to allow people to be free and basically govern themselves or fix their own problems. A liberalist will find this belief troubling when thinking about both our health care and financial systems as two prime examples. A liberalist would argue that any institution that deals with money will allow room for financial greed by those in power. If those in power are taking advantage of the people under them, there is no higher power to stop them. This is why liberalists believe in bigger government in order to prevent this from happening and to fix the problems that these situations create. Another reason why republicans are against health care reform might be because of the insurance company’s role in their current positions. Many elected officials, both democrat and republican have received millions of dollars each year from the insurance companies. Whether it is to help their campaigns or to influence their vote on certain pieces of legislation is unclear, but one cannot not deny the influence money has on politicians.

It should not just be a liberal view that all American citizens should have access to affordable quality health insurance. At a time when our country is facing extreme financial hardship, we should take advantage of every opportunity we get in order to make the American people healthier.

America Going Green!

President Barack Obama is a fierce advocate for clean energy. He believes that in order for America to go green, we must act now by developing new forms of clean energy. Going green will not be a quick or easy process.However, in order to go green we must provide American scientists with the tools they need. President Obama has a strong plan to invest in alternative and renewable sources of energy, end our reliance on oil from other countries and prevent further global climate change.

While President Obama wants the country to go green, he faces strong opposition from the republican party who insist on not going green and continue to drill for oil overseas. Many wonder why anybody would not want our country to go green. Going green will protect our planet from global warming, protect our country and world from global warming and will create millions of new jobs. Many republican politicians have claimed to support going green, but very few of them have actually acted on their claims. Last year the government passed the infamous stimulus package which included billions of dollars to help the country go green. More than ten billion dollars will go to creating a more complex grid that will transport new forms of energy to where it is needed most. More than four billion dollars will be spent on new government buildings that will support clean energy which will save tax paying citizens lots of money. Hundreds of billions of dollars will create clean energy jobs and training for those jobs. Also, a couple billion dollars will be rewarded to those who create new forms of batteries to help stock the new forms of energy.

The money from the stimulus package that is going to help the country go green is a great start. However, a lot more needs to be done if we are going to end our need of foreign oil, stop global warming and put Americans back to work in an environmentally friendly way. The President needs to continue ignoring opposition on this matter because most of the country believes that going green is the right thing to do. It is right not only to keep our country safe from global warming but to grow our economy and be able to compete with the world in green technologies. It is in our country’s best interest as well as the best interest of the world that we move forward with President Obama’s clean energy plan.

Global warming is one of the most important issues we face as a nation. We cannot let critics of this issue attempt to convince people that it does not exist simply by just saying so. Critics of the existence of climate change seem to be ignoring global warming facts. For years global warming statistics suggest that man is responsible for the majority of why our world is facing serious climate change. There are global warming myths and there are global warming facts. The global warming facts indicate that last year was one of the warmest years since we started keeping records. There are global warming facts that prove that the last ten years was one of the warmest ten year period in thousands of years. Scientists have produced global warming statistics that break down the percentages of each type of pollution and their affect on global warming. These global warming statistics suggest that the biggest producer of greenhouse gas are power plants, which account for more than twenty percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Global warming statistics also show that power plants are the biggest producers of carbon dioxide which produce almost thirty percent of the world’s carbon dioxide. Global warming facts provide it’s advocates with a plethora of evidence to make their case against the critics. Global warming critics do not have much to support their argument. Recent conservative television and talk show hosts claim that since there have been record snow storms in the north east this month, that means that the global warming statistics are wrong. That claim is laughable for some. For many people, snow in the north east in February is not a valid reason to not believe the global warming facts.

The issue of global warming is too important to ignore. It is not just America’s problem, it is the world’s problem. But as one of the most technically advanced nations in the world, we should lead by example. This means we should continue to invest more money in order to prevent further global warming. Further investments will provide more clean energy jobs which will help us not only find more information on global warming, but provide us with the tools we will need to handle this problem in a responsible manner. Global warming will not just go away on its own. It is up to us, the leaders of the free world to keep our country and our world safe from climate change.

Barack Obama

In November of 2008 it seemed that the majority of American citizens had liberal views on the country. We had elected a liberal President of the United States. After eight years of an extreme conservative controlling the White House, it seemed to make sense to have a person with liberal views fix the problems created by the conservative. Barack Obama has what some call extreme liberal views on the world and he ran on a liberal platform. From his beliefs on health care to the economy, as well as his education and energy policies, it is his liberal views that made him so popular with the American people.

* President Barack Obama believes that the government should provide an alternative health care insurance option for those who do not already have or are not happy with their own insurance. Not only would this provide health insurance to those who are unemployed or cannot afford it, but it would create competition by forcing insurance companies to lower their rates and improve care. This is an extremely liberal idea. Conservatives do not believe in the government getting involved with the health care system. President Obama’s opposition criticize his liberal views by claiming he is proposing socialized medicine and just looking to grow government in every way he can.

* With our economy in a deep recession, President Obama has taken a liberal stance on fixing the financial system by suggesting stronger regulation in order to prevent the big banks and investors from taking the same risks they have been for the last thirty years. Many of the president’s supporters are in favor of his liberal views because the conservative’s methods have not been working for a long time.

What doesn’t make sense to many Americans is how conservatives, who got us into the mess we are in now, are so quick to judge President Obama’s liberal approach. President Bush came into office with a record surplus and left Obama with a huge financial deficit. America also got involved with two wars under president Bush. So now that a man with liberal views is in office, conservatives suddenly claim to be financial and foreign policy experts. President Obama has been in office for a little over a year and conservatives are criticizing him for not having fixed the problems of the previous eight years. The partisanship of the republicans has gone to far. They are a big part of why we are in this current mess, so it is time for President Obama and the democrats to use their majority and restore faith in the United States government by bringing change to the politics and policies of the Bush administration.

Green Lifestyle

Since the government is having trouble passing legislation that will help prevent global warming and create clean energy, many American citizens have taken it upon themselves to live a green lifestyle. Climate change is becoming a bigger threat to our world everyday and green jobs are hard to come by. So instead of waiting for the government to stop their partisan bickering, people have come up with better ways to promote a green lifestyle that will help our planet. Leading a green lifestyle does not require making dramatic changes to your life. The best ways to be green are very simple.

* For starters, try to do all of your shopping at either one store or as few as possible. For example, stores like Wal Mart, Target or Whole Foods have a wide selection of not only food but other items such as clothes and hygiene and entertainment products. Limiting the amount of stores you shop at will reduce the amount of gas you use to get from store to store.

* When you go shopping, purchase a few canvas bags to put your groceries in so you don’t waste the plastic bags that most stores give you. These are great first steps to living a green lifestyle. An obvious and easy way to become green would be to recycle. It is the right thing to do and really makes a difference in the world.

* If you use your printer a lot, change your computer settings so that your printer prints on both sides. This will reduce the amount of wasted paper, save trees and prevent you from driving your car to buy more computer paper.

* This might be one of the harder ways to become more green, but if possible, walk or ride your bike to where you need to go. If that is not an option, use public transportation. This will also reduce the amount of gas.

There are thousands of other ways to become more green and all of them are effective. Unfortunately, many think that their impact alone is too small and does not make a difference. However, if everybody did their part in making the earth a cleaner place, we would not be in the situation we are currently in. It is the responsibility of everyone on this earth to save as much energy and create as little greenhouse gas as possible. Now if we can just convince the government to do the same, we would be in much better shape.

Republicans no Global Warming Solutions

Many republican elected officials have stated that they are not in favor of passing legislation issuing global warming solutions most likely because they do not believe global warming exists. Democrats know how to stop global warming but are having trouble passing legislation because of the republican’s demand for a super majority in order to pass anything. There are several different types of global warming solutions like developing new kinds of alternative and renewable energies such as solar, wind and geothermal power. Investing in this will create millions of new jobs, which will put Americans back to work and stimulate our economy. The list of global warming solutions also include producing more electric cars like RAV4s and hybrids. This will substantially reduce the amount of pollution that gas powered cars create and it will also create more jobs. The democrats do not claim to know how to stop global warming from their own basic knowledge. These global warming solutions come from scientists who have evidence that proves that not only does global warming exist, but explains how to stop global warming. In the world of politics, the republicans have always been better at getting their message heard. That does not give any merit to their actual message, but the democrats always seem to be quite even when the facts and the truth is on their side. Right now is a great example. They have scientists telling them how to stop global warming, yet not much is being done about it. The stimulus plan was a good start, but a lot more needs to be done.

In 2010 we know how to stop global warming, we just need to act on these methods and start making a difference. Our country and planet are facing many difficult problems where the solutions are not as black and white as with global warming. Republicans are choosing to be stubborn about an important world problem. Therefor we can not let there childish criticism stop the rest of us from putting these solutions to work. If the republicans demand a super majority to get legislation passed, the democrats should just use reconciliation. There have been several republicans warning the democrats not to use reconciliation claiming that it is not fair to the American people. However, republicans used reconciliation numerous times while President Bush was in office. So the democrats need to ignore the republican hypocrites and do what is right for the country.

The film was very successful in the United States and abroad. Many of the film’s viewers claimed to be more aware of the effects of global warming after watching it. Some viewers also said they changed many of their ways of life after learning about global warming effects on the planet. Global warming effects all of us living on planet Earth in many ways. Al Gore is a strong advocate and warns us that we must take the effects on global warming very seriously.

Al Gore faced some harsh criticism from people who do not believe that global warming effects are real. When the film first came out there were many organizations who tried to block the film from being seen be certain viewers as well as schools who felt that the movie was too controversial to show to kids. In 2007, the documentary won many different awards convincing some skeptics that maybe the effects of global warming are a serious matter.

Ever since Al Gore lost the 2000 presidential race to George W. Bush, he has made his main goal to warn the world of global warming effects and how we can stop the threat. There have been many attempts to discredit the information presented in the film but none of them have been successful. This is why facts matter. Al Gore does not make claims based on his own opinion. Instead he traveled the world and listened to scientists and climate experts and just reported the information he was given. Once again, the republicans have tried to turn this into a political issue simply because Al Gore was not only a democrat but a former vice president of the united states under a democratic president. If scientific evidence does not convince republicans that global warming is a real threat, many wonder what will. Democrats do not understand the political advantage of republicans opposing a danger to our planet. Al Gore continues to alert the world about the dangers of global warming and he will continue to have the truth on his side.
