Global warming prevention seems to be a top priority for many liberals. In order to stop global warming, activists must continue spreading their message to the country and to the world. Although advocates for global warming prevention are strong in numbers, their political opposition have the power and influence. If people want to stop global warming, they will need liberal politicians who also believe in global warming prevention to get legislation passed. Now is the time to do this.

The liberal democratic party has the majority. Although they have currently lost their 60 to 40 super majority, they still have the seats to use reconciliation. Reconciliation is a method used in both the House of Representatives and the Senate in which a bill can be voted on without the opposing party being able to filibuster. Instead of the democrats, who are trying to stop global warming needing 60 votes, in reconciliation they would need 51 votes. This makes the process of getting global warming legislation passed much easier. The democratic party has the majority in congress and seems to have the support of most Americans when it comes to the issues of global warming, health care reform, more financial regulation and many others. The party needs to take advantage of this opportunity. If the democrats do not act quickly, they could loose more Senate seats during the midterm elections. Republicans will claim that despite their record breaking uses of the filibuster, the democrats could not get anything done. If the republican party wins back the majority in November, that would create a huge disadvantage to the climate change movement.

There have been many scientists and climate experts who have reported statistics that suggest the world is facing record breaking warmer temperatures. These same experts have come forth with methods for not only global warming prevention but to stop global warming all together. These methods will require heavy government investments. Investments to create millions of jobs for manufacturing electric cars, and developing ways to produce clean energy so we can transition from depending on foreign oil. These investment will not stop global warming alone. Every person in the world can help stop global warming by being more aware of how much wasteful energy they produce and attempt to limit that in any way they can.

The politicians who believe that global warming is a real threat need to speak louder. So many who criticize global warming are constantly speaking out on television or in newspapers and magazines getting their opinion heard. Although a majority of americans do believe that global warming exists, it is important to keep spreading the message as to not let conservative politics destroy factual evidence.

With today’s advanced technologies and the convenience of the internet, it is no surprise that anyone can go online and visit one of the many different websites that provide their own carbon footprint calculator. A carbon footprint calculator will not only estimate your carbon footprint, but some will also list ways to reduce your impact. Since global warming and climate chance are becoming bigger threats to us here on planet Earth everyday, it is important for everyone to be aware of their carbon footprint.

Your carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases you create by doing certain actions. For example, driving a car will produce carbon dioxide which is a greenhouse gas. If you are controlling the temperature of your home with any of the commonly used fossil fuels, that will produce carbon dioxide as well which will add to your carbon footprint. Many scientists have done studies that suggest the bigger one’s carbon footprint is, the harder it is to prevent or stop global warming and climate change.

A carbon footprint calculator will usually start by asking the individual what type of home they live in, whether it is a house or an apartment, and if they live with anybody else. Next the carbon footprint calculator will ask what state the person lives in. This is done to provide the state average carbon footprint. Once these basic questions are answered, the carbon footprint calculator will ask more personal questions about the amount of energy they use at home, how much they drive a car and how often they fly. The carbon footprint calculator may also ask about the person’s eating habits, like if they eat meat or organic foods. Finally, one of the most important factors the carbon footprint calculator will ask is if the participant recycles. Not just in terms of putting plastic and glass bottles or containers in recycling bins, which is also very important, but do they re use anything in their own home.

Climate change is a major threat to our world. It is very important that every member of this planet does whatever they can do make it a cleaner and safer place. If you can walk or ride a bike to school or work, you should do so if the weather permits. If you can afford a hybrid car, that will greatly reduce the amount of energy you use and polluting gas you produce. Recycle at every opportunity you can. Most neighborhoods have a recycling system and it is very easy to put all recyclable items into a separate bin from your regular trash. Every individual can make a difference with their own carbon footprint.
